UPDATE: Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent reopened after crashes in icy conditions

The Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent has reopened after several crashes in icy conditions took place on the road Tuesday.

The highway's eastbound lanes were closed at Bloomfield Road in Chatham for several hours after a transport truck rolled over at around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

A second collision had the westbound lanes of the highway at Queen's Line (Hwy.2) in Tilbury at around 12:40 p.m.

The Ministry of Transportation issued a notice at 3:24 p.m. saying the highway had since been cleared.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), OPP reported that their provincial communications centre had reported numerous vehicles in the ditch in the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Hwy. 401 between Windsor and Chatham-Kent Tuesday morning.

No injuries have been reported, but drivers were urged to use extra caution on the road and watch for tow truck crews helping stranded drivers.
