Annual Diamonds Day 2023 returns for two days

Chatham Minor Baseball Association's annual Diamonds Day event is set to showcase the spirit of baseball this weekend.

This year's festivities promise a mix of film fun and games.

CMBA president Jason Chickowski said baseball's rich history and promising future in the area will be on full display.

"We all know about Fergie Jenkins, Doug Melvin, and Bill Atkinson who have gone on to the Major Leagues, but many other players have had great success coming from our organization," said Chickowski. "The event is a way to give back to the community and showcase the great talents we have in the community right now."

As the sun sets on Friday evening, Fergie Jenkins Park will transform into an open-air cinema for "Movie Night in the Park."

It's open to the public and anyone who is interested in showing up should bring lawn chairs or blankets to watch the classic Hollywood movie Little Big League on a 30-foot video screen.

The organizers have also arranged free popcorn for those who attend.

The movie starts at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

As the movie ends, a grand finale of fireworks by K&H Fireworks from Windsor will light up the night sky.

The Diamonds Day event continues its celebration of baseball on Saturday.

This time, it's all about the players and the game itself.
