Holiday with a Hero is back

A heart-warming children's holiday event hosted by emergency responders is returning this weekend following a three year hiatus during the pandemic.

Holiday with a Hero brings together police, firefighters, paramedics, and community partners to create a memorable holiday experience for children across Chatham-Kent through shopping and fun activities.

Chatham-Kent police said the event aims to spread joy and build positive relationships within the community.

Holiday with a Hero takes place Saturday morning at the Walmart on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

"It will be the first time back since the Covid pandemic, allowing the community to come together and spread some much-needed holiday cheer," said Chatham-Kent Police Public Information Officer Lynnette Rosina.

Police said 40 "deserving children" will be paired with their heroes for a unique holiday shopping experience. Each child can shop for gifts for themselves and their loved ones, according to police. Then, the children will get a police escort to the Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham where they will be treated to a "delicious breakfast" and "an array of exciting activities." The activities include a bouncy castle, other fun surprises, and gift wrapping.

"This event aims not only to create lasting memories for the children, but also to strengthen the bond between law enforcement, emergency services, and the community they serve," said Rosina.

Police are also sending out a big thank you to all community partners and local businesses for making Holiday with a Hero possible.
