UPDATE: Chatham's Service Ontario office has a new address

The Service Ontario office in Chatham is moving to a more central location near the downtown core.

The new Service Ontario office will open on Friday at the Chatham Civic Centre at 315 King Street West.

The municipality said operating hours will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

"At Service Ontario, we are committed to providing a seamless and convenient experience for all your essential transactions," posted the municipality on social media.

Service Ontario provides a variety of services, including health card, driver's licence, and vehicle registration needs.

The Service Ontario office on Grand Avenue East in Chatham closed for good at the end of day on Wednesday.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent announced in October 2019 it would be taking over the Chatham Service Ontario office while a search for a new long term operator was conducted.

The fate of the Service Ontario office has been up in the air for several years after the previous operator retired in September 2019 after 12 years of running the office.

The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery told CK News Today that in-person access is a fundamental component of our service, and it's pleased that the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is a partner in supporting service delivery excellence.

"The relocation of the Chatham Service Ontario centre to the municipal Civic Centre provides residents of Chatham and the surrounding area with access to services from both levels of government in a convenient community hub," read a statement.

The ministry added there will be no change to the Service Ontario services offered at the new location.
