Ground has been broken for a new Restore building in Chatham.
Members of the Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent Board of Directors officially broke ground this week at the new location at 55 Junction Avenue.
Habitat CK Office and Volunteer Manager Anne Taylor said the new facility will be approximately 12,000 square feet and will be open late in the summer of 2024.
Taylor said the new Restore will continue to offer a "unique and value added" shopping experience for their customers.
"It'll be slightly smaller, but we like to call it more efficient. Shoppers will still have the same great experience shopping that they have here. It'll be a nice bright brand new shiny store. So, we're very excited," said Taylor.
Taylor hopes the new ReStore will be more convenient for customers and reach more clientele.
"It's on a very busy corridor, Park Avenue. So, we hope to get a lot more different new friendly faces over in that neck of the woods," Taylor added.
The ReStore has been in operation since 2014 at its current location at 566 Riverview Drive and Taylor noted it has enjoyed continued success due to the generosity and support of local residents and many local businesses.
Habitat ReStore is a social enterprise retailer that accepts and resells donations of new and used furniture, appliances, décor, and home improvement materials.
Shopping at the ReStore is also an environmentally conscious decision, as much of the product sold would have otherwise ended up in a landfill, according to Habitat CK officials.
All proceeds support the construction of new Habitat for Humanity Homes across Chatham-Kent.
