A couple of local farmers are thrilled to be awarded for their passion for agriculture.
Hanna Reid of Ridgetown will be presented with the Youth Agriculturist of the Year Award at the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce Rural Urban Awards on November 22, 2023 at the Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham. Jim Campbell of Blenheim will also be recognized as Agriculturist of the Year.
Reid told CK News Today she is very honoured to win the award, adding she loves the animals she works with.
"I love working with the animals. That's the side of agriculture I'm really passionate about. I went to school for Animal Science Technology majoring in dairy," said Reid.
Reid urges young people to join the Chatham-Kent 4-H Association if they want out find out about farming and agriculture.
Campbell thanks the Chamber for the award and shares it with his work colleagues, family, and friends.
"Whether it's the team I work with at Agris Coop or my family and neighbours back at our own family farm, I certainly want to thank everybody," Campbell said.
Devolder Farms in Dover Centre won Agriculture Innovator of the Year.
Anne Verhallen of Thamesville will take home the Friend of Agriculture award.
