UPDATE: Driver airlifted to trauma centre after rollover in Chatham-Kent

The Highway 401 through Chatham-Kent is expected to stay closed well into Thursday afternoon after a transport truck rolled over into the median in Chatham.

OPP in Chatham-Kent shut down the westbound lanes of the road at Communication Road (Interchange 90) after a rollover crash near the 85 kilometre mark of the highway shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday.

The eastbound lanes were closed shortly afterward.

Police said the driver of the transport truck that rolled over was pulled out of the vehicle and taken to a trauma centre via Ornge Air Ambulance with what are said to be "non-life-threatening" injuries.

The truck that rolled over was reportedly hauling livestock at the time, but there is no word on the condition of the animals.

OPP said as of 10 a.m. Thursday, the highway was expected to stay closed for several hours for the investigation and the vehicle removal.

Westbound traffic that is being diverted off the highway can get back on at Bloomfield Road. Eastbound traffic being rerouted can get back on the highway at Communication Road / Hwy. 40.
