Chatham-Kent police say there is no concern for public safety after an investigation prompted a police presence at a local school Monday afternoon.
Police said they were called to Victor Lauriston Public School at around 12:12 p.m., in response to reports of an individual with a firearm seen near the school.
Officers located three people in a backyard adjacent to the school and found them to have pellet guns.
In a release Monday afternoon, police said they are actively investigating the matter to gather more information and determine the incident circumstances.
The pellet guns have been turned over to the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
"We understand the concern and alarm that incidents involving weapons can cause, especially in a school environment," read the release. "We want to assure the public that there is no concern for their safety."
