CK Charity Classic easily surpasses fundraising goal

A number of Chatham-Kent organizations are getting a funding boost thanks to a local event.

This was the third year for the CK Charity Classic golf tournament, and the goal for 2023 was to raise $24,000.

"This year we have raised a record amount of $32,000," said co-founder Erin Dickinson. "In total in our three years, we have given away over $64,000 to organizations in Chatham-Kent."

The sold-out tournament took place at Willow Ridge Golf and Country Club in Blenheim on July 12. Most of the money raised at the tournament is going to three groups.

"We are funding a wheelchair-accessible community garden for the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres in Wallaceburg, it will be at their site there," said Dickinson. "We are funding two train-the-trainer programs to Victim Services Chatham-Kent, and we are also providing three laptops to Restorative Justice Chatham-Kent."

The extra $8,000 that was raised is going to what the group calls "Angel Gifts."

The Randy Atkinson Memorial RAM Golf Tournament is getting $2,500, which raises money to help people battling cancer pay for parking, gas and medications.

Another $2,500 is going to the food program at Queen Elizabeth II Public School, which supports over 300 students.

Free Help CK is getting $2,000 for their backpack program, and they purchased a weed wacker and leaf blower for Come Together CK.

Dickinson added that they've already picked the charities that will benefit from the 2024 tournament.

"We will be providing $10,800 to the Suicide Prevention and Education Committee of Chatham-Kent, to run free suicide prevention workshops in the community. As well as we will be funding 4,500 books purchased at a cost of $17,250 for the Kiwanis Club for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library."

Sponsors for the 2024 CK Charity Classic are almost sold out, but you can get more information on their social media pages on Facebook or Instagram.
