Crowfest returning to roost in Downtown Chatham

The second annual Crowfest Chatham-Kent is on.

From Wednesday to Saturday, downtown Chatham will be filled with performances, food, and all things crow.

Busker co-coordinator, Jay Henderson, said he's been prepping for the event for about a year, almost since the last one ended. He called Wednesday's "Great Balls of Fire" show the big draw.

"We have all the performers in the festival who do fire doing their greatest fire stunts. So, you'll see performers on unicycles with fire whips, performers on stilts that are on fire, all kinds of ridiculous stuff," Henderson explained.

He added that although he doesn't believe it will be needed there will be plenty of fire extinguishing devices on hand. "Great Balls Of Fire" will kick off at 5 p.m. at the Garden on King.

He described the "Great Canadian Dueling Pianos" show as a slightly classier, indoor event. "It's just a great event that you can't miss," said Henderson.

The performance takes place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the River Rock.

The first event, on Wednesday, is the Olde Crows Tea which will be held at Retro Suites Hotel at 11:30 a.m. It includes a luncheon, entertainment, and plenty of tea.

Thursday will feature the Crowfest Gala. People are encouraged to don their finest black attire and enjoy this year's theme of a murder mystery, called "A Murder of Crows".

On Friday, vendors and buskers from around the world will be on King Street from 3-9 p.m.

The fun continues all day Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. Crowfest will wrap up Saturday night with the 19+ Busk After Dusk wrap-up party at the Sons Of Kent Brewery.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff said that over 40 companies have sponsored the event and more than 100 volunteers will be working to make it all happen.

"It's a true example of how community comes together to make Chatham-Kent so amazing," he said.
