Older adults in Chatham-Kent will be in the spotlight next week.
The Celebration of Older Adults: Aging Well Conference is a free event taking place on Thursday, October 12 at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club.
"We have Jason Mallory coming to talk about wills and estate planning," said event co-chair Clare Latimer. "CK Police Services, they're talking about frauds and scams. We have Amanda Almedia from Life by Design with 'You Go' Yoga. Canada Homestay is coming to talk about aging in place, and CK Boomers On The Move is there to tell us all about downsizing and where to start."
The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and lunch is included.
Co-chair Marjorie Crew said as baby boomers get older, they have a lot of questions, and they want to help answer them.
"Some people are living alone, and they don't know where to go for end-of-life planning, wills, and estates," said Crew. "How do I take care of my things? What does it mean when I get a power of attorney? Does that mean that somebody takes over my life, should I do that? These are all questions that people need to get answers for."
Crew added that the event is also a great way to meet new people, especially if you just moved to Chatham-Kent.
"People are coming here because it's a great community. We've always known that, but now everybody else is finding out so they want to move here," said Crew. "Quality of life is good, sometimes it's to be closer to family."
