Crime Stoppers looking for tips after theft at Chatham train station

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is putting out a call for tips after a woman's bag was stolen while she was waiting for a train in Chatham.

Crime Stoppers said that was at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 10.

Police said a woman was standing on the platform at the VIA Rail station on Queen Street, waiting for her train to arrive when a suspect on a bicycle rode up next to her and grabbed her bag of clothing that was sitting on the ground before riding off along the tracks.

Investigators said the victim's mother was waiting in a nearby vehicle and followed the suspect until she lost sight of the cyclist near the intersection of St. Patrick Street and Baxter Street in Chatham.

A witness also told police that the suspect may have had a black handgun tucked into his waistband.

The suspect is described as a male who was wearing a reddish-orange hoodie and a black balaclava to cover his head and face.

The investigation is ongoing and Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information to contact them at 1 800 222 8477. You can submit an anonymous tip and could be eligible for a cash reward.
