Walk for Parkinson's quickly approaching

Walkers are getting ready to take over Kingston Park in Chatham on Sunday, September 10.

They'll be participating in the annual Walk for Parkinson's, which gets underway at 12 p.m. at Pavilion #1.

Dylan Murphy, the special events coordinator for the Parkinson's Society of Southwestern Ontario, said more than just the walk is planned.

"We're also going to have lots of other things going on as well. We'll have a performance by member of the Chatham Concert Band, we'll have food and refreshments," said Murphy. "We'll also have our information booth, where you can learn more about our programs, services, and education resources."

The walk is the largest fundraising event of the year for the Parkinson's Society of Southwestern Ontario.

"All of the funds that are raised stay local within in Southwestern Ontario," said Murphy. "The funds go towards our four key areas of support, which are programs and services, education, research, and advocacy."

Their goal this year is to raise $440,000 across Southwestern Ontario, last year they raised $408,000.
