Updated: Heavy rain expected to drench parts of southwestern Ontario

Prolonged periods of heavy rainfall were expected to soak parts of the region.

Late Monday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement advising heavy rain will likely affect parts of southwestern Ontario including London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, Oxford County, Perth County, Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.

“Total local rainfall amounts near 50 millimetres are possible by the time the rain clears the area late Tuesday afternoon or evening,” read a statement from Environment Canada.

The weather agency said some regions were also at risk for thunderstorms.

By 10 p.m. Tuesday evening, the weather advisory had been lifted for all regions.
