The municipality of Chatham-Kent wants to know your thoughts on a potential designated area for swimming at Erieau Beach.
In May, Chatham-Kent council approved a buoy system for Erieau Beach to keep swimmers and boats apart and safe.
It's now looking for input from the general public, regulatory bodies, and prospective vendors to finalize the potential buoy system at the beach.
The purpose of a swim area is to separate swimmers from boats and other watercraft.
"A swim-only area is a clearly marked area using buoys, with or without a connecting rope," read a statement from the municipality. "Watercraft, including windsurfing equipment and paddle boards, would not be permitted in this area."
Residents can view the project information as well as share their thoughts through the Let's Talk Chatham-Kent website.
Municipal officials said comments can include potential impacts on the public's use of Erieau Beach, the size of the swim area and location, the type of infrastructure used, and overall support or opposition.

"The public beach at Erieau is a popular summer destination for Chatham-Kent residents and visitors," read the statement. "It is enjoyed by swimmers, boaters, and participants in other recreational activities."
Submissions, which will inform the future project decision in the Fall, must be sent before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
