Dresden girl says she'll never forget her time as Queen's Park page

A teenager from Dresden had the experience of her life at Queen's Park as a page for a month.

MacKenzie Rankin, 14, told CK News Today she was a page at the provincial legislature from April 16, 2023 until May 17, 2023, running errands for MPPs.

Rankin said she would recommend being a page because the experience helped bring her out of her shell, calling it an experience she'll never forget.

"I learned so much, it was such a beautiful experience. I wish everybody could get this beautiful experience. I learned the history of Ontario, the history of Canada, the history of Parliament. It was awesome," said Rankin.

Rankin said her time as a Queen's Park page was inspirational and made her more confident.

"I would definitely consider being a politician or getting into politics. It was definitely an inspiring job, it was great," she added.

Rankin also thought it was cool the speaker of the house knew her great grandparents.

"The speaker was friends with my great grandparents. So, that was really cool hearing about, his experience with my great grandparents, and hearing stories about that," she said.

Rankin said she met many great people, such as Ontario's Lieutenant Governor, MPP Monte McNaughton, and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner.

Rankin said her cousin found the page information online and recommended it to her.

She had to write an essay and go through an orientation when she was accepted for the role.

Rankin is a Grade 8 student in the FI program at McNaughton Avenue Public School in Chatham.
