New cross-border bus service out of CK starts next week

Chatham-Kent residents who want to travel to and from Detroit will soon have the option of taking a new daily bus service.

On Wednesday, the municipality announced the new route from Toronto to Detroit will make stops at the downtown Chatham transfer terminal beginning April 5, 2023 to allow Ride CK users a "seamless connection" between services while also providing a central pick-up and drop-off location.

Municipal officials said the new Megabus route is exciting for both local travelers and tourists wanting to visit Chatham-Kent.

"We are thrilled to be able to work with Megabus to provide increased transit opportunities for the residents of Chatham-Kent," said Chatham-Kent's Director of Engineering Chris Thibert. "The addition of this route provides low-cost travel opportunities for our own residents as well as those wishing to visit Chatham-Kent."

The new express bus service will make two trips per day, seven days a week, and will stop daily in Chatham, London, and Windsor.

Megabus is a low cost, daily express bus service that offers routes across Canada and the United States. This new route comes through a partnership with inter-city travel provider Trailways of New York.

"Increasing community connectivity is a great catalyst for business," said Chatham-Kent's Director of Economic Development Stuart McFadden. "Our new partnership with Megabus is a great opportunity for Chatham-Kent, for our local economy, and will certainly help accelerate the growth we’re already experiencing."
