Several speeders will have to answer to various charges after getting stopped by OPP on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.
On the morning of January 16, a trio of drivers were pulled over by officers with the Chatham-Kent OPP detachment.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., an officer stopped a passenger vehicle that was found allegedly speeding on the westbound lanes of the 401.
The 24-year-old Brampton driver was charged with going 49 km/hr over the posted speed limit as well as with being a G1 licence holder driving at an unlawful hour and driving on a prohibited highway.
A few minutes later, in a separate incident, an officer stopped a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of the highway after it was clocked also going 49 km/hr over the speed limit.
The driver, a 32-year-old Camlachie resident, was charged with speeding as well as with driving while suspended.
Just before 9 a.m. on January 16, OPP pulled over a vehicle that was caught driving 167 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.
The 33-year-old from Mississauga was charged with stunt driving, speeding and failing to surrender an insurance card.
Anyone charged with stunt driving receives a 14-day impoundment of the involved motor vehicle and a 30-day driver's licence suspension.
On the afternoon of January 16, around 3:27 p.m., an officer pulled over a vehicle to verify the driver's licence status of the driver on the eastbound 401.
As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old from Hamilton was charged with driving while suspended.
A few days later on January 18, around 11 p.m., an OPP officer stopped a vehicle on the westbound lanes of the highway that was logged going 70 km/hr over the posted speed limit.
The 31-year-old driver from Chicago was charged with stunt driving and speeding as a result.
Meanwhile, in the early hours of January 22, an officer stopped a commercial vehicle around 4:12 a.m., that was clocked going 120 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.
As a result, the 28-year-old Kitchener driver was charged with speeding, driving a commercial vehicle without a working speed-limiting system and failing to surrender an insurance card.
Additionally, the commercial vehicle operator, a company from Calgary, was charged with permitting operation of a commercial vehicle not equipped with a working speed-limiting system, failing to monitor driver's compliance and failing to ensure a daily inspection report is accurately completed.
