Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham will be getting some new lighting.
On Monday, councillors in Chatham-Kent unanimously voted in favour of a $516,385 lighting upgrade at Rotary Park.
A report to council noted the lights are more than 30 years old and inefficient for the current field design.
"As the existing lights are over 30 years old and parts are difficult to obtain for repairs, the replacement of the ball diamond lights was identified as a priority for replacement in the 2021 Parks Lifecycle budget. The existing lights are metal halide and are no longer efficient for the level of play," wrote Supervisor of Parks and Horticulture Deb Veccia.
Veccia said the new ball diamond lights will be LED, more energy-efficient, and are specified to meet the existing level of play at the park.
They can also accommodate increased lighting requirements at an extra cost if future upgrades are needed for a higher level of play.
