A Chatham martial arts group has its sights set on the national championships after fighting its way to the top of the podium provincially.
Armstrong Academy of Marital Arts won two gold, four silver, and five bronze medals at the 2022 Ontario Jiu Jitsu Association Provincial Championships.
The tournament was held in Niagara Falls from December 3 and December 4.
Frank Brady took the gold in the blue belt master medium heavy division.
Brady won the first match by defeating Thomas Sniedzins of Primal MMA Academy with an armlock at the 1:10 mark.
"He then went on to finals to defeat Michael Salem of R1NG BJJ by 5-0," said Thomas Armstrong, the head instructor at Armstrong Academy. "He then went on to finals to defeat Michael Salem of R1NG BJJ by 5-0."
In the kid's division, provincial champion Emily Lamarche defeated Gabrielle Weisberg from Xtreme Couture Toronto by 20-4.
Lamarche went on to the finals defeating Lilly Heuser of Niagara BJJ by armbar submission at the 1:33 mark of the match.
In the kid's divisions, Alex Amores Carlone won silver, Jeremy Lamarche won bronze, Dominik Formosa won bronze, and Isabelle Armstrong also won bronze.
According to Armstrong, Blenheim Jiu Jitsu World Champion Rain Pfaff will automatically be moving on to the national championships on February 11 after have no athletes to compete against in her weight division.
In the adult divisions, Aaron Campbell won silver, Cole Massender won silver, Tiffany Campbell won silver in division and bronze absolute, and Kyle Anderson took home bronze.
