A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in the Medicine Unit at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA).
On Friday afternoon, CKHA said five cases of health-care acquired COVID-19 have been identified at the Medicine A and B Units at the Chatham hospital and Chatham-Kent Public Health has formally declared both units to be in outbreak.
"CK Public Health will work closely with CKHA to manage the outbreaks within the Medicine A and B Units and will continue to work in consultation until the outbreaks are declared over," read a statement from CKHA.
Hospital officials also said a number of additional infection prevention and control initiatives have been implemented in response to the outbreaks in the Medicine A and B Units and CKHA will continue following these measures until the outbreak order is lifted.
CKHA is reminding the community that the hospital remains a safe place to receive care.
"If you are experiencing an emergent acute care need, please do not hesitate to dial 911 or visit your nearest Emergency Department," said hospital officials.
