Windy Wednesday in store for southwestern Ontario

Make sure anything light is tied down ahead of Wednesday, as meteorologists say strong winds are expected to blow through the region.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for most of southwestern Ontario including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin counties, Huron-Perth along with Grey Bruce County.

According to the weather agency, strong westerly winds between 70 to 80 kilometres per hour are forecast to begin Wednesday afternoon as a strong cold front moves in.

"The strongest winds are expected near the shorelines of Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, where wind gusts up to 90 km/h may occur," read a statement from Environment Canada.

Windy conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon and early evening before easing later Wednesday night.
