The Canadian Cancer Society is in need of volunteers for the 2022 CIBC Run for the Cure in Chatham-Kent.
The annual fundraiser isn’t until October 2, but preparation work is already underway.
Organizer Gail Davis said this year's event is going to be held in person at St. Clair College's Chatham campus.
"We are looking forward to celebrating our 5th year anniversary in Chatham Kent," said Davis. "This year our goal is to raise $37,500 and we are hoping to get 148 participants."
Last year, the event raised a total of $18,000 with 37 participants.
Money raised through Run for the Cure is pooled together and a large panel will later distribute funds to support projects and services across the country.
"Over the past 20 years, CCS and the former Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation have invested over $360 million in breast cancer research, funding more than 1,400 scientific and community grants," said Davis. "With the help of our donors, we can continue to learn more about how to prevent, treat and improve the quality of life for those diagnosed with breast cancer."
Participants will be able to take part in a 1km walk/run or a 5km walk/run around the St. Clair College Campus. The campus is located at 201 Campus Parkway in Chatham.
Those interested in volunteering or participating can visit the CIBC Run for the Cure Chatham-Kent website to find out more.
"We're looking forward to getting together and sharing our stories or situations," said Davis. "Everyone has been touched by cancer one way or another."
