Chatham-Kent Film Group returns to the big screen

The Chatham-Kent Film Group is getting ready to welcome residents back to the big screen.

The group, which is a division of the Toronto International Film Festival, is set to show its first screening at Galaxy Cinemas in Chatham after a two-year hiatus.

The first film of the season is "I'm Your Man," a 2021 German science fiction romance film. There will be two showings at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on September 12.

"The film 'I’m Your Man,' was directed by Maria Schrader. (It) premiered at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival in March 2021 and went on to win many awards," said CK Film Group Chair Angela Corso. "The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2021."

Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

"Everyone has been waiting for the opportunity to return to the movie theatre," said Corso. "We are excited to be back and share the love of the cinema with our current patrons and attract new members."

A new film will be shown on the first Monday of every month.

"We hope to bring a wide variety of films to Chatham-Kent which will entice many age groups to join the Film Group," said Corso. "As a new committee, we are eager to share our love of film with Chatham-Kent."
The group was forced to cancel its last four scheduled screenings in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Corso, members from the 2019-2020 season that missed film group movies due to the pandemic, will have their membership honoured for the first four films from September to December.

Beginning in January 2023, people will have the opportunity to purchase a new membership.

The next film screening will be held on Monday, October 3.
