Residents of southwestern Ontario are about to get a dose of extreme heat.
With temperatures expected to hit the low to mid 30s this week, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the entire region. The weather agency says the hot and humid weather will be with us on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Daytime high temperatures are expected to reach 32 to 35 degrees Celsius, beginning Wednesday afternoon. Humidex values will be in the low to mid 40s," Environment Canada said. "Overnight low temperatures are expected to be 22 to 25 degrees Celsius, providing minimal relief from the heat."
Relief is expected to come on Thursday evening, when a cooler air mass moves into the region.
During the heat event, residents are advised to drink plenty of water and try to stay in a cool place. It's also recommended to check on older family members, friends, and neighbours to ensure that they are cool and hydrated.
People should also watch for the symptoms of heat illness. They include dizziness and fainting, nausea and vomiting, rapid breathing and heartbeat, and extreme thirst.
