Chatham-Kent’s Arts and Culture Network has launched a new website for local creatives.
The volunteer-run, non-profit organization formed in 2021, has now launched a website to help promote local events and activities.
Art and cultural events, local artists, authors, musician profiles, galleries, studios and venues, and information about the Chatham-Kent art scene can now be found in one place.
The group aims to promote and sustain the arts and culture community throughout the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
"We're getting ready to be incorporated as a charitable organization," CKACN Chair James Snyder said of the organization's status.
The new website is intended to connect artists of all kinds and introduce them to the public. "We're going to be featuring an artist every month on our webpage," Snyder announced. Artists can apply to be featured through the site. "We're trying to recognize past and present artists in all categories."
It will also have dates, times, and locations for events and shows in the region and will have updates regarding the cultural centre.
There are two major events on the organization's calendar so far: the CK wide Artists Studio Tour in the fall and the induction of local creatives to the Cultural Heroes Wall of Fame.
Snyder said that the CKACN Facebook page has been up and running for over a year and has been well received by the community and he hopes that the website will follow in that page's success.
"We're known as the home of Fergie Jenkins, why can't we be known as the home of Sylvia Tyson?"
