Maroons drop 6-2 decision in Game 1 against Falcons

The Chatham Maroons were defeated 6-2 against the St. Catherines Falcons during Game 1 in the Sutherland Cup final.

St. Catharines put themselves on the scoreboard first. Maroons forward Cameron Graham followed up for the team, scoring Chatham's first goal at 13:43. The Falcons responded with another shot in net wrapping up the first frame ahead of the Maroons 2-1.

Heading into second, Lucas Fancy tied things up early on with a goal at 1:37. Cambridge broke that tie shortly after ending the second period ahead of Chatham again 3-2.

The Maroons struggled during the final period falling behind the Falcons, who went on ahead of Chatham with three more goals.

Chatham will have a chance to redeem themselves against St. Catharines on Sunday for a second opportunity to seize the cup if they win Game 2. Puck drops for that game at 7:30 p.m. Sunday on home ice.

If the Maroons clinch a win on Sunday, the teams will head to Game 3 on Tuesday in St. Catharines.

The Chatham Maroons last played in Cup Final in 2005. They last won the cup 23 years ago during the 1999 championship.
