COVID-19 outbreak rescinded at Erie Shores

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has ended an outbreak protocol at Erie Shores Healthcare.

An outbreak was declared almost two weeks ago on the 2-Centre ward at the Leamington hospital when two patients tested positive for the virus. The hospital believes the pair were infected by a visitor to the unit.

Visitors are allowed once again on 2-Centre, effective Thursday.

"Currently, an inpatient is permitted two visitors, with one allowed at the bedside at a time," said ESHC spokesman Kevin Black. "All visitors must also pass a rapid-antigen test each day they visit and wear a mask and eye protection in all hospital areas. These protections will remain in place to keep our patients and staff safe."

The latest visitor policies at ESHC are available on its website, and visitors are urged to refer to it before going to the hospital.
