Students doing good job catching up on regular school vaccines

The catch-up clinics in Chatham this month for students who missed their routine school vaccines were very successful.

Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colby said the clinics for Grades 7, 8, and 9 students have so far gone very well and have seen 50-75 students a day.

Chatham-Kent Public Health said many students missed their regular Meningococcal, Hepatitis B, and Human Papillomavirus shots because of the pandemic.

Colby said the clinics were slower through the March Break but that's understandable because some students were away on vacation.

"The clinics have been running very smoothly indeed and all of the comments that we have received have been positive," said Colby.

Colby said the local clinics are well known around the province for their efficiency.

"We have good experience running that vaccination clinic. We did the COVID mass vaccination very well indeed and we're well regarded throughout the province for that. So, I'm not surprised that everything has gone smoothly," Colby said.

The clinics at 730 Richmond Street continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of April and Colby said they have the capacity to see at least 100 people a day.
