For the second time this month, a popular smartwatch is being recalled over concerns it may overheat and burn the user.
Health Canada issued the recall on Thursday of Decathlon's Kiprun GPS 550 running wrist heart-rate monitor watch. According to the national health agency, the battery in the watch may overheat during charge or while in use, which could cause burns or lead to a fire.
The affected products come in black and black and white and have the following model codes: 8527652 and 8527651.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled GPS wrist watch and contact the nearest Decathlon point of sale for a refund," Health Canada said.
The watches were sold in Canada between July 2020 and February 2022.
To-date, there have been no reports of injury linked to the watch in Canada.
Nearly two weeks ago, a similar recall was issued for four models of Fitbit's Ionic smartwatch. In that case, the lithium-ion battery in the smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard to the user.
