Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced additional sanctions on ten individuals "complicit in this unjustified invasion" of Ukraine while in the United Kingdom Monday.
Trudeau indicated the names of these individuals came from a list compiled by jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The list includes former and current government officials, oligarchs, and supporters of the Russian leadership.
"These sanctions put increased pressure on Russia's leadership, including on Putin's inner circle. This is in addition to other sanctions we've announced, including our recent announcement on imposing massive tariffs on Russian and Belarusian imports," said Prime Minister Trudeau.
During a news conference with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, all three countries agreed to work together to provide humanitarian aid.
"Our new International Ukraine support group will coordinate the efforts of the international community to provide long-term and unwavering assistance now and in the future," said Prime Minister Johnson.
Trudeau arrived in London Monday for a week-long stay in Europe, where he is expected to meet with several international leaders. Following his visit to the United Kingdom, he will travel to Latvia, Germany, and Poland.
“In light of Russia’s unwarranted and unjustifiable aggression against Ukraine, Canada is working in close collaboration with our allies and partners in defending democracy against authoritarianism and standing with the Ukrainian people. We will continue to ensure that Russia’s actions do not go unpunished,” said Trudeau.
