Three more COVID-19 deaths in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent Public Health is reporting three more deaths linked to COVID-19.

The deaths were reported Wednesday morning.

Jeffo Moco of the health unit’s communications team said the three most recent deaths involved two women in their 80s and a man in his 90s.

According to Chatham-Kent Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Colbly, the health unit has now logged a total of 56 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

A new outbreak has also been reporded at Meadows of Wheatley retirement home with a total of nine cases. This brought the total number of outbreaks in Chatham-Kent to three.

The outbreak at Village on the Ridge retirement home in Ridgetown is now over with 43 total cases since it was first declared on January 17.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance reported on Wednesday that there are 17 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, with seven of them being not vaccinated against the virus.

Four of the COVID-19 patients are in the intensive care unit.
