CKHA welcomes new board member and physicians

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is welcoming a familiar face to its Board of Directors.

According to the CKHA, Deb Crawford was named as a new board member during the board meeting on January 27.

Crawford retired as Director of Education for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board in 2021 after serving as a teacher, vice principal, principal, superintendent, and director of the board.

Prior to moving to Chatham-Kent in 2001 from her hometown of Toronto,  Crawford worked with the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from York University, a Bachelor and Master of Education from Brock University and The Ontario Directors of Education Leadership and Strategic Impact Certificate from Rotman School of Management.

Additionally, Crawford served on the Executive and as President of the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Association, and on the Executive Board for the Council of Directors of Education as well as been active on national, provincial, and local committees and boards.

“On behalf of CKHA’s Board of Directors, we are delighted to welcome Ms. Crawford to our Board,” said CKHA Board of Directors Chair Alan Wildeman. “Her career in education coupled with her academic achievements and years of experience as an executive on various boards and committees, including at the national and provincial level, are well suited to a position on CKHA’s board."

Meanwhile, the CKHA also announced that four new physicians  have joined its team.

Dr. Samar Tabl joins the department of anaesthesia, Dr. Brent Herrit joins the department of critical care, Dr. Juan Arminan Cordies joins as a general surgeon and Dr. Asad Naeem joins as a hospitalist.

Tabl earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and her PhD from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, where she worked for a number of years as an anaesthesiologist before moving to Canada with her family.

Herritt was born and raised in St. Johns, Newfoundland where he attended Memorial University of Newfoundland to receive his Bachelor of Science as well as his Doctor of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Ottawa, where he then went on to complete a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine.

A native of Cuba, Cordies completed his Doctor of Medicine in Havana. He completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Calgary in 2017 and 2018. Most recently, Cordies completed locums throughout Alberta and in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Cordies is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada as well as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. He will begin accepting referrals in February. Cordies ' offices is located at 146B Queen St. in Chatham and can be reached by fax at 519-397-4123.

After growing up in London, Naeem attended Western University and received a Bachelors Degree, Honours Specialization in Commercial Aviation Management in 2013. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts in 2017. Naeem joins his sister, Dr. Aimen Naeem, in the hospitalist program at CKHA.
