Elderly woman's purse missing after she finds strange man in her home

Chatham-Kent police looking for the public's help to track down a suspect after an elderly woman had an uninvited guest at her home in Bothwell.

Police said the woman saw a man in her home on St. Ignatius Line at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, adding that he claimed to be inside the residence to check her water and took off when she confronted him.

Officers said he drove off in a dark coloured pickup truck and was last seen travelling towards Zone Centre Line.

Police said after he left, the woman noticed that her purse was missing.

The suspect is described as a young man in his 20s and approximately 5'6" tall.

Black SUV reported stolen in Blenheim

Chatham-Kent police are asking for the public's help to track down a black 2004 GMC Yukon that was stolen from a parking lot on Chatham Street South.

Police said the vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates CSFM 343.

Newmarket man pulled off the road after traffic stop

A 35-year-old Newmarket man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught driving in Chatham-Kent with a suspended license.

Police said an officer with the traffic unit pulled the man's vehicle over on Kent Bridge Road at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, adding that the man was also accused of failing to have insurance, and failing to surrender a permit for the vehicle.

The vehicle was then towed from the scene.

Driver's license taken away after excessive speeding

A 22-year-old Chatham man will have to get around without a license or a vehicle for at least a couple of weeks after he was reportedly spotted going 141 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 km/h zone.

Police said a member of the traffic unit spotted the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on St. Clair Road Wednesday night and pulled it over.

As a result of the investigation, the man's license was seized and suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was taken away and will be impounded for 14 days.
