One COVID case reported, incidence rate trending higher

For the third week in a row, the COVID-19 incidence rate in Sarnia-Lambton has gone up.

On Wednesday, Lambton Public Health reported the rate of infection per 100,000 population increased to 51.1 for the week of November 28 to December 4, from 37.4 the week before. The positivity rate was also higher at 3.9 per cent from 2.8 per cent.

The health unit reported one more confirmed case of the virus for a total of 4,446 since the start of the pandemic. The number of cases deemed resolved increased by 11 to 4,313, lowering the active case count by 10 to 55.

The death toll is unchanged at 78 and there are still five active outbreaks.

Bluewater Health had four COVID-positive patients in hospital, up one from Tuesday.

Since the vaccination rollout began in late January a total of 202,164 doses have been administered, including 99,404 first doses.

Lambton Public Health said 75 per cent of the eligible population aged five and up are fully vaccinated while 79 per cent have received one shot.
