Residents who were impacted by the explosion in Wheatley last month are continuing to get support from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
Several families were displaced after an explosion rocked the community's downtown core on August 26 at the site of a hydrogen sulphide leak.
According to a media release from the municipality, its employment and social services department continues to work with local community groups as part of the Wheatley Recovery Group, to assist with recovery efforts and fill any service gaps.
“Being a member of the Wheatley Recovery Group and the partnership with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent has helped our community because we have been able to identify needs, collect and distribute goods, and connect people who don’t know where to turn," said Kim Little, treasurer of the Wheatley BIA.
According to the municipality, The Wheatley Recovery Group has launched the Wheatley BIA Disaster Relief Fund, which residents can now apply for by clicking here.
Since the incident, case managers have been on-site at the Wheatley Arena and available by phone.
However, on Monday, the reception centre at the Wheatley Arena will relocate to the Wheatley Village Resource Centre and Food Bank on Talbot Street East.
According to the municipality, case managers will be at the resource centre to assist evacuees with housing, food, and other support services.
The service will operate Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the week of September 20th to September 24.
