A vacant lot on Chatham's southwest side could become a six-story apartment building with commercial space on the ground floor.
The property located at the southwest corner of Park Avenue West and Keil Drive South will be up for discussion at municipal council next week.
According to a report going to council, the building is planned to contain 117 units with 465 square meters of retail space at ground level.
"The land-use plan for southwest Chatham allows for the development of a range of land uses over time," the report read. "Residential uses planned in this area are comprised of both low and medium-density building types with institutional and commercial uses intended to serve the needs of the surrounding community."

The proposed development is looking to incorporate a residential component to the intended use of the land while maintaining commercial use as well.
In addition to the proposed building, the amendment suggests upgrades to Park Avenue and Keil Drive to be considered as well.
This includes a 5-metre road widening along Park Avenue and a 3-metre widening of the daylight triangle at Keil Drive South intersection to be made prior to any new development.
