Break-in at Bell Canada office
A 32-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after someone broke into a fenced compound at the Bell Canada location on Queen Street in Chatham and took off with over 200 metres of DC trunk cable.
Police said they were notified about the break-in on May 21, 2021, adding that the value of the stolen cable was estimated at $6,000 and officers were able to identify a suspect by reviewing some video surveillance.
The accused was arrested late Sunday afternoon and charged with break and enter. He was later released with a future court date.

Vehicle windows smashed
Chatham-Kent police are investigating two incidents over the weekend where vehicle windows were smashed.
Police said someone broke a window of a car that was parked on James Street in Ridgetown at around 7 a.m. Sunday. The damage was estimated at $500.
Officers are also investigating after someone broke the window of a van parked on Ottawa Drive in Chatham sometime between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday. The damage in that case was estimated at $1,500.
Police said nothing was taken from either of the vehicles.

Police put on orange pins to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day
