Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race cancelled again

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has cancelled the 2021 Sydenham River Canoe and Kayak Race, set for April 28.

“It’s unfortunate that we are unable to hold the race this year, especially when we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the SCRCA,” said Melissa Levi, Conservation Education Coordinator, “However, holding the race would not comply with the Ontario government’s emergency stay-at-home orders.”

The 2020 event was also cancelled due to the pandemic.

The race is organized annually as a fundraiser to support SCRCA conservation education programs and draws between 80 and 100 participants. Donations to support Authority programs including conservation education can be made through the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation.

The authority said it looks forward to hosting the race in 2022.
