Increase of 26 COVID-19 cases in London-area

London-Middlesex reported 26 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

Since the pandemic began, 6,562 cases have been reported in the London area. The health unit said there have been four confirmed variants and 45 variant screened positive cases in the region.

Twenty-nine additional recoveries were also reported on Saturday. So far, 6,206 individuals in the London-area have recovered from the virus and the number of known active cases is currently at 171.

On Friday, 31 new infections were reported, marking the highest number of cases to be recorded in a single day in the region since February 13.

Meanwhile, 185 people have died from the virus in the region since the pandemic began. The most recent death, a woman in her 70s, was reported on March 8.

The number of institutional outbreaks remained the same from Friday to Saturday, sitting at five.

Elsewhere, provincial health officials reported 1,829 new cases on Saturday out of 52,100 processed tests.
