Lambton County provincial police say a criminal investigation is underway following the discovery of human remains at Walpole Island.
Officials confirmed the remains were found on Wednesday. Members of the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the Canine Unit are working with Walpole Island First Nation in the investigation.
Police say the death of the person is being treated as suspicious however, they believe there is no identified threat to public safety.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
