Woman charged after falling asleep at the wheel

A call from a concerned citizen is to thank for getting an allegedly impaired driver off the road in Chatham.

On Friday evening, police received a call about a suspicious vehicle on Gregory Line.

When officers arrived, they located a 28-year-old woman asleep in the vehicle, which was running. Through investigation, police believed the woman was impaired.

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters for the impaired by a drug test by the Drug Recognition Expert.

The woman was charged with operation while impaired and later released from custody with a future court date.

Attempted break and enter 

Police are looking for more information about an attempted break and enter at a Chatham business.

On Friday around 9 a.m., police attended the Canadian Tire store on Grand Avenue West after getting a call about an attempted break and enter.

Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects attempted to break into the store and caused around $400 in damage to a door.

False 911 calls lead to reminder from police

Police in Chatham-Kent are reminding residents to double-check what number they're dialling.

Over the past day,  Chatham-Kent Police Emergency Communication Centre received 19 false 911 calls.

Calls to 911 are only to be made for life-threatening emergencies or to report a crime in progress.

For any other non-emergency incidents, the dispatch centre can be reached at 519-352-1234. General inquires call be made by calling 519-352-1234 extension #222.

Motor Vehicle Collisions                                      

Chatham-Kent police are issuing another reminder to residents, this time to be careful out on the roadways.

According to police, six collisions were reported over the past 24 hours in the municipality.
