Charges laid in fatal Hwy. 401 crash in Tilbury

A Windsor man has been charged in connection to a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Highway 401 in Tilbury almost two months ago.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged Firaz Bachan, 24, of Windsor with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.

Chatham-Kent OPP officers were called to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 just east of County 42 on November 23 shortly after 11 a.m. because of a vehicle collision. The OPP said at the time of the crash that one vehicle veered off the highway and ended up in the south ditch. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured. The eastbound lanes of the Hwy. 401 were closed for several hours to allow officers to investigate.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Chatham-Kent Provincial Offences Court on February 24, 2021.
