COVID-19 outbreak confirmed at Windsor Police Service

Windsor police have confirmed that COVID-19 has now affected the service.

According to a statement from Sergeant Steve Betteridge Tuesday afternoon, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit declared an outbreak at the Windsor Police Service.

"The Windsor Police Service has taken the appropriate measures to mitigate further spread of the virus within the workplace, while preserving the overall continuity of its operations," Betteridge said.

The health unit says an outbreak is declared when two or more employees at the same place of business contract COVID-19 within a reasonable time period to suspect that transmission has taken place there.

It has not been disclosed which unit the outbreak is in, but Betteridge acknowledged that it is confined to a single area.

Police will not provide additional information on the area affected, citing privacy and public safety concerns.
