Tecumseh eases rules for garbage collection

Tecumseh Town Council has signed off on a motion that will allow residents to put two extra bags of garbage on the curb.

Some residents are putting out more waste because of spring cleaning, or they are home more during the pandemic.

Until May 28, the town will allow residents to put out two extra bags of garbage next to their hard-sided containers, so long as they do not weigh more than 50 pounds, and do not contain sharp objects, batteries, or other hazardous waste.

Materials used for home renovations will not be picked up. Residents should either hold on to those or take them to the indoor landfill on Deziel Drive in Windsor.

Bulk items, like old furniture and mattresses, will be picked up, but residents with so-called "white goods," things like old washing machines and fridges will have to call and register for pick-up.

The City of Windsor also changed its rules because of the pandemic. Until May 15, residents in the city are allowed to put out two extra garbage bags.
