Annual Rural Urban Awards ceremony goes virtual

The 74th annual Rural Urban Awards will be handed out in Chatham-Kent this evening.

But for the first time, it'll be a virtual-only event.

The ceremony usually includes a dinner along with the presentations, but because of COVID-19 restrictions, the proceedings will be showcased on the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce's social media sites and on the YourTV local channel instead.

It's free to watch -- there is no fee associated with the event this year.

This year's Agriculturist of the Year is Barry Kearney of Thamesville and the Agriculture Innovator of the Year is Wouter VanLeeuwen Sr. of Ridgetown.

The Youth Agriculturist of the Year is Ian Lawton of Kent Bridge and the Friend of Agriculture Award is going to Jackson Seed Service from Dresden.

The award ceremony will start at 7 p.m.
