Chatham resident nearly $248K richer after lotto win

A father of three from Chatham got an early Christmas present after winning $247,950 by playing one of Ontario's newest lottery offerings.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), David Borges, 45, won the Lightning Lotto jackpot on November 16.

Lightning Lotto players can win a jackpot on the spot if they match all five numbers in any one line on the Lightning Lotto ticket with those drawn earlier that day. The top prize starts at $125,000 and grows with ticket sales.

Borges said he told his wife about his big win right away.

"She thought I was lying," he said.

According to Borges, he decided to play Lightning Lotto because it's new. The winning ticket was purchased at C.P. Burger on Grand Avenue in Chatham.

The auto worker said he plans to put some of the money towards bills as well as buy a new car.

"This will help pay off some bills," said Borges. "I am on cloud nine."

The OLG said the odds of winning any Lighting Lotto prize are 1 in 4.47.
