Man arrested after domestic disturbance

A 36-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after he allegedly showed up at a local woman's home in Chatham and took her vehicle without her permission even though he wasn't supposed to be in contact with her.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to investigate the incident shortly after 7 p.m. Monday and learned that the man had allegedly shown up at the woman's home, took her vehicle without her consent, and threw the keys at her feet after he came back.

The man also allegedly started sending some Facebook messages to the woman after he returned to his own residence.

Police said when they showed up at the man's home, he refused to leave, so police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

He was taken into custody at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent and failing to comply with his release conditions.

Electronics reported stolen from residence

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after a TV, a laptop computer, and an internet router were reported stolen from a residence just outside of Dresden.

Police said their investigation so far shows that sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, someone broke into a residence on Kings Ferry Road in Camden Township and took off with the electronics, which have an estimated combined value of $1,300.

Teen driver charged with stunt driving

A 17-year-old driver will have to ride in the passenger seat for at least the next week after she was stopped for going way too fast on Eighth Line near Dillon Road.

Police said an officer with the Traffic Unit recorded the vehicle she was driving going 148 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 km/h zone Monday afternoon.

The teen was charged with stunt driving and as a result, her license has been suspended for seven days and her vehicle will be impounded for a week.

She will also be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on December 9, 2020.

Police recover stolen car, arrest two people

Two local men are facing charges after police allegedly found them in a stolen vehicle in Chatham.

Police said a Thamesville woman reported the vehicle stolen last week Thursday and an officer on general patrol spotted two men driving it on Raleigh Street at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The driver -- a 31-year-old Ridgetown man -- was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and theft of gas. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

The passenger -- a 43-year-old Chatham man -- was charged with possession of property obtained by crime. He was later released with a future court date.

Charges follow traffic stop in Wallaceburg

A 26-year-old Walpole Island woman and a 36-year-old Walpole Island man are both facing charges after police pulled over a vehicle on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg Monday night.

Police said the woman, who was driving, was charged with driving while under suspension and using plates not authorized for the vehicle. The vehicle's license plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

The man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions by associating with the woman.

Police look for public's help in identifying suspect

Chatham-Kent police are hoping members of the public can help them identify a woman involved in a shoplifting incident in Chatham.

According to police, it happened Monday night at Sport Chek.
