One extra home sale makes for record-breaking September

Homes are still selling like hotcakes in Chatham-Kent.

Even with a historically low number of homes on the market, sales hit a new record high in September with 136 units changing hands.

The Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors said that is one sale higher than September 2019 and good enough for a new record total for the month.

The average price of the homes that were sold soared higher again, too, climbing 17 per cent compared to the same month last year to $312,302. That also pulled up the year-to-date average price to $302,200, which is up 20.1 per cent from the first nine months of 2019.

The number of homes that were up for sale at the end of September locally didn't set a new record low, but it is close. There were only 137 active residential listings at the end of the month -- that's down 45% compared to the same time in 2019.
