Health officials are asking customers who recently shopped at Spirit Halloween Store at Devonshire Mall to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms after an employee tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is advising residents of potential public exposure after it received information about a positive test result. The employee worked at the store on August 25. The health unit is in the process of conducting contact tracing.
Proper preventative measures were taken at the store and the employee who tested positive was wearing a face covering while at work. The WECHU said store management reached out to them and health inspectors will be on-site to complete an assessment.
“As more businesses continue to open up, the potential for exposure to COVID-19 increases. The WECHU will continue to issue alerts any time there is a potential exposure to the public," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed. "While the potential for exposure is low this step will ensure all appropriate precautions are taken to limit any further spread of COVID-19.”
Health officials recommend that customers who visited the store on Tuesday, monitor for symptoms for 14 days and take the online COVID-19 self-assessment. Should symptoms develop, residents are advised to go to an assessment centre or contact a primary care provider.
Eighteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Windsor-Essex on Saturday, while nine cases were marked as resolved.
